Start by acknowledging the fact that you won’t get a rush of readers and that will take the initial pressure off.

Second, if it’s a couple you romantically ship, create a plot that will make the pairing believable without promoting the romance right off the bat. That’s what turns people away most of the time if they realize they’re reading something where two characters they don’t ship will get all lovey-dovey porny-porny. Don’t just write smut or guilty pleasure stuff or where the plot points just lead to sex. Give the characters obstacles to overcome where they realize their feelings for one another throughout the story. If the characters believe the romance, then the audience will believe the romance. 

And honestly, that’s really just all you have to do. And don’t get upset if you get flamed for it. People will be people, there’s no helping that.
